Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Twardowski Career Development Center invites applicants for two Assistant Director positions.

Both full-time, twelve-month positions report to the Director of the Twardowski Career Development Center within the Division of Student Affairs. Assistant Directors are responsible for providing programs and services which serve to enrich and enhance the educational experiences of all students as they plan their careers and enter into the job market or engage in continuing education. Assistant Directors also provides services for alumni and other special interest groups.

The primary professional responsibilities of the Assistant Director are:

• Maintain a regular appointment and drop-in schedule with students/alumni to provide individual and small group assistance with career planning and development issues. Assist individuals in the interpretation of assessments. Conduct mock interviews.
• Assist and familiarize students/alumni with job search and graduate school preparation strategies and resources. Promote the value of experiential education and networking.
• Develop and facilitate presentations on topics such as resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, networking, job search strategies, workplace professionalism, and graduate/professional school. Develop customized programs based on student group and faculty requests. Collaborate with Student Affairs offices and other administrative units to ensure integration of career development into co-curricular activities. Represent the office at and support the coordination of on-and off-campus events, including branch campus locations.
• Assist students in the use of technologies associated with the career planning/development process, including but not limited to Ram Career Network (i.e., Symplicity CSM), MyWorldAbroad, and Focus2.
• Review/critique resumes, cover letters, application essays, and other application materials for the various populations served by the center.
• Write, edit, update, and contribute to publications including, but not limited to, website, social media, handouts, newsletters, as well as related information for various University publications.
• Contribute to the development, revision, and review of Career Development Center mission, program goals and objectives, and strategic and operational plans which support the missions of the PASSHE, the University, the Student Affairs Division, and the needs of the constituencies served.
• Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and assessment of programs and services, including student learning outcomes.
• Maintain active membership in professional organizations in order to keep abreast of current trends in counseling, student career needs, and potential job markets.
• Occasional travel, some evening and weekend work is required.
Each Assistant Director has differing liaison responsibilities. In your cover letter, please indicate which position you are applying for.

Position 1: Serve as primary point of contact for services, resources, and programs related to graduate students and international students. Work collaboratively with Graduate Studies, Center for International Programs, faculty, student organizations and administrative offices that support these students.

Position 2: Serve as a main point of contact for services, resources, and programs related to pre-major/exploratory students, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Health Sciences. Manage the WCU Shadows job shadowing program.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in counselor education, higher-education/student affairs, or closely related field required.
• Two or more years of professional experience in career counseling/career services in a university/college setting.
• Established record of providing career development support and guidance in individual and group interactions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and project management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as career services management software and social media tools.
• Ability and disposition to interact favorably with diverse groups of students, alumni, faculty, and external publics.
Preferred Qualifications:
• In-depth knowledge of counseling and career development theories and techniques, including use of career assessment tools such as the Strong Interest Inventory and MBTI.
• Current knowledge of employment and career planning materials specifically relevant to graduate and professional students and international students.
• Experience with programs that support exploratory students, including job shadowing or other related experiential education programs.
• Knowledge of alternative approaches to career development and planning needs for individuals with special/targeted needs – multicultural and under-represented minority students, non-traditional aged students, veterans, etc.
Special Instructions:
Starting salary is $45,027. Excellent benefits package including tuition fee waiver for self and dependents. Applicants must successfully complete the interview process to be considered as a finalist.
