New Position: Career Services Coordinator at Penn State College of Medicine

The Career Services Coordinator will be responsible for providing comprehensive career services to graduate students and post-doctoral fellows at Penn State College of Medicine. The successful candidate will be adept at assisting students with all aspects of the career development and planning process including the development of effective career-educational plans through career counseling and coaching, administering and interpreting self-assessment instruments, and referring students to relevant career information and resources. The Coordinator will provide services and programs that enhance skills necessary for conducting effective externship, internship, and full-time job and/or post-doc searches, including resume/cover letter writing, interview preparation and practice, networking skill and job search strategy development. They will coordinate career-related events including an annual Career Day and a monthly career education seminar series. Track and compile annual report data to include student appointment contacts, program and workshop statistics, employer/ organization involvement in programs and events, and College of Medicine graduate outcomes.

In addition to providing direct service to students, the Career Services Coordinator will spend approximately 30-40% of their time in the position interfacing with employers, alumni, faculty, and other appropriate stakeholders to develop experiential rotations, internships, and full-time employment opportunities for students. Other responsibilities include collaborating with IT resources on campus to develop and maintain a website and social media presence for Career Services at Penn State College of Medicine and monitoring pertinent web-based systems.

Position typically requires a Master's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, Student Affairs or a related discipline, plus 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in life sciences desirable but not required. Candidates should demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills and organizational ability, strong presentation skills, prompt follow-through, writing proficiency, initiative, high energy, attention to detail, ability to work both collaboratively and independently, and an ability to work in a fluid environment with shifting priorities. Data management, budget experience, and career software experience are also preferred. Candidates should possess the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.


Typical Education and Experience Requirements:

Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in counseling or related discipline or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
