Job Title: Director of Career Development

Position Reports to: Assistant Dean of Students

Position Summary:
The Director of Career Development is responsible for envisioning, directing and implementing the components and initiatives of the Office of Career Development – Student Affairs. These components include a 4 phase plan for students’ career exploration and development which include career assessment; career advising and counseling, career exploration, planning, job search, employers outreach program including job fair and experiential learning opportunities. In addition to a focus on career development, the Director will work with the Assistant Dean of Students to develop programs and services designed to promote student success, retention and graduation including comprehensive first, sophomore, junior and senior year experiences.

The Director is also responsible for the management of key career development initiatives: university student employment program, internships, professional mentorship programs and job shadowing; career pathways/curriculums to career program, co-curricular transcript, graduate school planning; destination survey and career assessment initiatives. The Director will provide direction, guidance, and supervision of staff in the functional areas of career counseling and coaching, industry advising, programming, alumni and employer engagement, special population support (underrepresented minority, LGBTQ, first-generation, low-income, veteran, athlete), trends and professional development.

Career Development reports through the Division of Student Affairs and must be prepared to contribute to the overall mission of Student Affairs.

· Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel or related field required and at least five years of experience in the field of career development or student affairs in higher education. Doctoral Degree in Higher Education Administration or Counseling Psychology strongly preferred.

· A proven track record of success developing and implementing initiatives, leading staff, and creating meaningful relationships with students, faculty and staff, alumni, and employers.

· Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and computer and data management skills.

· Strong leadership, management and programming skills.

· The ability to be creative and flexible.

· Strong analytical, budgeting, reasoning and problem solving skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Establish annual goals, objectives, and benchmarks for the career development office at Chatham University. Provide strategic direction for continued program development and improvement.

· Oversee the Career Development professional and student staff.

· Maintain accurate data on student use of services, experiential learning and job placements. Produce reports when needed.

· Manage the Career Development budget.

· Collaborate with other campus units to design and implement career-related services and programs, including academic departments, alumni affairs, and student affairs.

· Oversee assessment of the office’s services and the collection of all career-related statistics for the University.

· Enhance the office’s communication strategies to provide accurate and up-to-date information about services to various constituencies, including students, faculty, employers, alumni, and parents.

· Provide individual supervision to graduate practicum students.

· Liaise with Graduate Psychology faculty.

· Oversee major career-related events on campus.

· Develop and maintain relationships with employers and other external constituencies to increase the number of employment and experiential learning partners for Chatham students.

· Collaborate with area universities and organizations to facilitate events and programming such as WestPACS, PERC, Creative Careers, and Regional Internship Center.

· Represent the Career Development Office at University events and participate on University committees.

· Other duties as assigned.
