The Career Services Assistant/Associate Director assists in the development and delivery of career services for the Penn State Smeal MBA program and for new residential and online programs. The Career Service team’s goal is to achieve high levels of graduate employment and MBA program rankings by providing exceptional career coaching and delivering innovative, best-in-class career services that optimize time and results. The assistant/associate director provides services supporting the student career choice process, internship and job search skills development. Services include live and virtual career coaching for individuals and groups, career and internship planning assistance, job search strategy development, planning and conducting career workshops and special events, leading job search teams, and managing online tools, forums, and resources. The assistant/associate director also manages programs facilitating alumni and student networking, works with student associations on career development activities, and contributes to metrics on student internship and full-time employment. The role will aid the director in working with the Employer Relations team on employer and alumni relationships, and in providing input to the Admissions team on applicant fit and employment potential. The successful applicant enjoys a fast-paced and quickly-evolving environment, manages multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and has excellent interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills for multiple environments. The student-facing nature of the role requires that candidates exhibit a strong professional demeanor and diplomacy as well as the highest standards of integrity and ethics. Experience with CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and student employment systems is desired, particularly Salesforce and Symplicity. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in counseling or related discipline or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in counseling or a related discipline and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related degrees such as an MBA or other business disciplines will be considered. The role requires a solid understanding of the career planning and job search process, particularly in the graduate and MBA recruiting environment and the ability to serve global, diverse, and high-performing customers in multiple formats. Ideal candidates have experience in a corporate environment with functional management responsibility, and/or career development experience with business students, graduate students, or professionals. The Penn State Smeal MBA program is nationally ranked in US News, BusinessWeek, and Forbes, and is best known for its academic strengths in Supply Chain Management, B2B Marketing, Corporate Finance, and consulting in those functional areas. The student body is diverse, averaging 70% from the US and 30% international. As MBA employment is critical to MBA rankings, career services are vital to meeting employment rate goals. The professional graduate program portfolio is expanding rapidly, with additional residential and online programs in many business disciplines launching in Fall 2017 and beyond.
