Summary

The Assistant Director for Employer Relations at the Center for Career Services oversees the employer development program at John Carroll University connecting students and alumni to internships and jobs.


Duties and Responsibilities

• Encourage and increase employer involvement in career center activities and programs, especially the annual Career Fair and on campus recruiting.
• Conduct employer site visits and host employers on campus for the purposes of job and relationship development.
• Provide excellent customer service to maintain and develop effective relationships with employers.
• Coordinate recruiting programs and activities, to include career fairs (including Government Career Day and Education Recruiting Day), on campus recruiting and other recruiter networking events.
• Assist Boler School of Business with Meet the Accountants Night and Meet the Recruiters Night.
• Coordinate employer development efforts with career services internship coordinator, academic department internship coordinators and advancement staff.
• Utilize and become familiar with all available means of technology to ensure effective delivery and marketing of services, to include Career Connection (career services management system), as well as other online resources.
• Maintain Career Connection database, reviewing and activating student and employer accounts including jobs, on campus interview and event scheduling.
• Directly supervise student employees who assist in the maintenance of Career Connection and employer relations management.
• Work closely with the career services marketing coordinator to promote jobs, internships and the recruiting program to students and alumni, as well as encourage faculty involvement in the employer outreach process and student motivation.
• Solicit employer feedback and continually evaluate recruiting programs and processes.
• Continually analyze internship and employment destinations of students and alumni to determine where new employer development needs to occur and develop outreach plans to meet those needs.
• Educate and train staff and students as necessary on recruiting technology and overall recruiting process.
• Participate in Career Center programs, represent the office through participation in campus committees, seek out professional development opportunities to improve skills and market the Career Center and the University to other colleges, recruiters, and community organizations.
• Promote career services by making presentations to classes and student organizations, and by assisting in coordinating special events, programs, receptions, etc.
• Contribute to the overall success of career services by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of related experience in career services, recruiting, sales or human resources.
• Must possess a dynamic, professional demeanor with exceptional organization, communication skills, ability to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail, a self-motivated/enthusiastic work style.
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience in working with employers, academic and programmatic partners.
• An understanding of the relationship between career development and the Jesuit mission of John Carroll University with the ability to articulate the benefit of the relationship to employers.
• Proficiency with personal computers, related hardware/software, and database management with knowledge of career services-related software preferred.
• Knowledge of career trends, especially as they relate to traditional college aged students.
• Working knowledge of employment trends locally, nationally, and globally.
• Strong student advocacy with proven ability to work with a variety of student interests and backgrounds.
• Excellent project follow-through ability.
• A creative thinker with well-developed analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills.
• Polished presentation skills.
• A positive attitude with a sense of humor.
• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the changes common to career development with a college population.


Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, Human Resources


Normal Working Hours and Conditions
University core business hours are generally 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. However this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations.

Physical Requirements

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
