PT Career and Technical Education Career Consultant (Perkins Grant)*

Work Schedule: 28 hours per week/45 weeks per year, Day hours, not to exceed 1260 per year.

Salary Range: $12-$20 per hour

FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Summary

The Career and Technical Education Career Consultant provides a variety of services and support to assist Career and Technical Education (CTE) students in all phases of career and job placement. Responsibilities include working directly with CTE students to develop strategies that enhance their employability. The CTE Career Consultant coordinates all work activities with college faculty and staff to support student development through the promotion of available services, encourages student engagement and facilitates achievement of the grant’s goals and objectives. Reports directly to the Director of the Career Development Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Promotes student development by providing a variety of career/job placement services and support to assist career and technical education students at main campus and satellite locations
Assists CTE students as per their career goals with résumé development, cover letters, interviewing skills, and job search strategies.
Actively facilitates and supports the learning process by applying student development theory to all activities.
Fosters student awareness of services through a variety of methods including but not limited to mailings, emails, and classroom visits.
Plans and implements a variety of activities that are designed to encourage and support students enrolled in non-traditional career & technical fields.
Collaborates with Career Development staff to coordinate and present career workshops and classroom presentations.
Documents CTE students’ career/job placement status and progress, maintaining current notes in student files.
Stays current with employment trends throughout the career and technical fields.
Completes and submits periodic progress and outcomes reports as requested.
Contributes to the continuing development of the Career Center and the College through work with student development and academic departments and other campus offices, as applicable.
Assists in coordination of CTE field trips (Perkins funded)
Performs other Perkins-related duties as may be assigned
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required. Master’s degree in higher education, or related field preferred. Spanish bi-lingual encouraged. Minimum of two years business experience required; some experience in career/job recruiting and placement services preferred. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, strong sense of initiative, motivation and self-direction. Must demonstrate the ability to interact positively with students, employers, faculty and staff in a professional manner. A positive attitude, patience, service orientation and an awareness of the needs and concerns of varied populations. Ability to lead by example; plan, organize and implement multiple projects and see projects through to successful conclusion. Ability to function well in an atmosphere that promotes teamwork as well as initiative and independence. Must possess a high level of commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
