Job Summary

Carnegie Mellon’s Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) is hiring an Assistant Director/Career Consultant to work with undergraduate and graduate students within Dietrich College. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated top performer with higher education and/or industry experience to demonstrate knowledge in an unusual role within one of the most respected schools in the world. You will join a centralized career center team of twenty-one professionals who orchestrate the dynamic work happening at CPDC.

Core responsibilities will include:
•Provide career counseling to all Dietrich College students and alumni on career exploration, professional development, internship and job search preparation, and post-graduation career planning needs, and will act as primary CPDC liaison for various departments within the College,
•Partner with the Employer Development team to develop and implement a comprehensive employer development and outreach plan that engages recruiters from various sectors and industries, and
• Undertake individual or committee projects in order to accomplish specialized goals as determined by the administration.

You should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently on projects, as well as function competently in a team environment. Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within CPDC. Inclusion, collaboration and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Therefore, we are in search of a team member who is able to effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through his/her work.

Core job related skills include:
•Thorough understanding and application of college student development theories, career development theories, and/or counseling theories,
•Analytical, organizational, reasoning, and problem solving skills,
•Collaborate with the Dietrich College leadership, faculty, and staff to implement programs and career consulting with Dietrich students,
•Consistent record of multicultural and global competence, and
•Creative approaches to utilizing technology to provide efficiency and efficacy to career services.

You should be able to work some evening and weekend hours for department and university events (i.e. career fairs, orientation, CPDC program events). Some travel may be required.

•Master’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required.
•One to three years of career counseling, student affairs, or related field required.
