The Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) is Carnegie Mellon University’s centralized career services center providing a comprehensive range of services, programs and materials focusing on career exploration and decision-making, professional development, experiential learning and employment assistance to meet today’s evolving and growing workplace and student goals of finding satisfying work.

Are you someone who is passionate about making a positive impact? Our CPDC department is seeking an Assistant Director/Career Consultant to work with students within the College of Fine Arts (CFA) and Mellon College of Science (MCS). This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated top performer with higher education and/or industry experience to use knowledge in a unique role within one of the most respected schools in the world.

The connected culture between the CPDC and both CFA and MCS allows you the opportunity to be mobile, meeting the students where they spend their time, and to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The ability to build and grow relationships, not only with students, but also with department heads, academic advisors, faculty, and employers will be vital in this role.

Core responsibilities will include:

•Career Consulting: Provide career counseling to CFA/MCS students and alumni on career options, professional development, internship and job search preparation, and post-graduation career planning needs.
•Program Development and Participation: Develop and implement meaningful programming to include events/panels, workshops, job fairs and collaborations with College, faculty and other partners to foster successful career development of students. Participate in relevant events sponsored by various university constituencies.
•Employer Development: Meet and correspond with company representatives to gain knowledge of organizational or industry needs and to educate representatives about hiring trends and effective outreach strategies.
•Assessment and Reporting: Engage in tracking and measuring student career-related outcomes. Use data to construct goals and programs for the next consecutive year. Prepare reports and outcome information as needed.
•Special Projects: Undertake individual or committee projects in order to accomplish specialized goals as determined by the administration.

Proven ability with:
•Building and growing relationships, not only with students but also with department heads, academic advisors, faculty and employers
•Understanding cultural sensitivity to effectively work with a robust international student population
•Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing

Ability to work outside normal business hours to include evening and weekend as dictated by programming needs. Some travel may be required for employer outreach and development.

Qualifications
•Master’s preferred
•Minimum one year of relevant experience required; higher-education or recruitment/talent acquisition experience preferred
•Working knowledge of Handshake, Symplicity or other similar recruiting software programs and applicant tracking systems preferred
