Drexel University - Steinbright Career Development Center

Title: Career Services Practicum
Reports To: Ken Bohrer/Arnie Kohen

The Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) is seeking a graduate student interested in Higher Education Career Services to be exposed to a large, creative, dynamic and innovative Career Center. The student will be exposed to different focus areas including Career Services, Curriculum and Teaching, Employer Relations, and Undergraduate Co-op. This position allows for a great deal of flexibility and initiative.

Provide opportunity for practicum student to learn the roles and functions of career counselors, co-op advisors and co-op instructors in a University Career Services setting.
• Counsel and guide undergraduate students of all majors and classifications on career exploration options and choice of major
• Support students in making the transition from college to career, through individual sessions and group presentations
• Advise students on job search strategies including resume writing, networking techniques, interview preparation, researching employers/industries/job market, and professional skills in the workplace
• Participate in Career Services activities, including career fairs, on campus recruiting, workshops, employer outreach and related career services events
• Research career resources (LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, alumni association, professional organizations, etc.) to assist students with job search and career development
• Collaborate with Employer Relations team on various projects
• Present overview to SCDC Leadership Team at end of practicum experience

• Masters in Higher Education/Counseling or related concentrations
• Minimum of 100 hours within 2 semesters/terms
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills
• Interest in helping students, and sensitivity to individual needs
• Excellent presentation skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Must be in good academic standing
• Must have completed minimum of 1 term/semester in graduate program

Learning Outcomes:
• Develop applied and related experience in large Career Services office
within University setting
• Gain knowledge and understanding of career resources provided for
undergraduate, graduate students and alumni in all majors
• Application of career related services and technology
• Foster university wide department partnerships
• Learn best practices on how to serve students in career
exploration/development, job seeking strategies, interview preparation,
professional workplace behavior, and transition from college to work
• Develop and enhance group presentation skills

Provide support and assistance with the following:

2) Practice Interviews/Big Interview online program
3) Workshops or Podcasts
4) Networking Techniques
5) Career Library Resources
6) Job Market/Industry Research
7) Hiring/recruiting trends

1) Conduct Individual sessions (with direct supervision) on career
exploration and development, using career assessments (MBTI/Strong
Interest Inventory/Type Focus)
2) Provide guidance and recommendations to undergraduate students on
career services and resources
3) Advise students on transitioning from academic and co-op experiences to
professional work settings


Participate in following events and career center
1) Information Sessions, On-Campus Recruiting, Employer Outreach, etc.
2) Career Fairs
3) Dragon Jobs online posting site
4) Collaborate with Employer Relations Team

Introduce and learn experiential education process:
1) Co-op Onboarding through SCDC online system
2) Pre and post co-op meetings with Co-op Advisor
3) Graduate Co-op program
