Penn State Altoona Career Services is seeking applicants for a Level 2 Career Counselor position. This position meets with students for the purposes of clarifying students' career goals and developing an active strategy to reach goals. These meetings occur within scheduled 60-minute career counseling appointments. The Career Counselor meets with undergraduate students and uses a career self-assessment tool of MyPlan to assist students in making career decisions and develop strategies with the students to aid in reaching career goals.

Responsibilities of the Career Counselor include are not limited to the following:

Act as a liaison between Career Services and the Division of Business, Engineering, and Information Sciences and Technology as well as the Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Collaborate as appropriate on special projects and programs as well as provide supervision for career peers and interns as needed

Provide professional assistance with securing internships, full-time employment or acceptance in graduate/professional school, summer employment, job fair preparation, resume and cover letter writing, LinkedIn, interviewing skills/mock interviews, job shadowing, government employment, LionLink informational interviewing, networking, and applying to undergraduate research opportunities

Monitor Nittany Lion Careers and approve students’ documents posted to site and enter student counseling notes

Further, the Career Counselor develops and delivers a range of career presentations for student classes and student organizations. Presentation topics include "Resume Building", "Interviewing", "Orientation to Career Services", and "How to Conduct a Job / Internship Search", among other topics. Additionally, the Career Counselor assists with our major events such as Career Services' Career Fairs, attending Admissions Offer Receptions, attending Senior Salute to collect post-graduation data, and assisting with alumni networking programs.

The Career Counselor will teach CNED 100 Effective Career Decision Making course for undecided students. The Career Counselor will work with the Administrative Assistant to coordinate the Career Services social media accounts of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

We are seeking applicants who strive to provide outstanding service to students and alumni, who are comfortable supporting and working with students who are uncertain of their career goals, and who excel and actively contribute within a team environment. The Career Counselor must be skilled at interpersonal counseling, demonstrate multicultural competence, and be grounded in both career and personal development theory.

This position typically requires a Master's degree or higher in Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related discipline, and 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. with evenings and weekends as needed.
