Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS)

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) in the College of Health and Human Development (CHHD) seeks applicants for our new “Career Development and Engaged Learning Specialist” position.

HDFS has been actively working on strategic efforts to refresh, re-imagine, and strengthen both the curricular and co-curricular supports and opportunities we provide HDFS undergraduates with goals of promoting student success, engagement, and ultimately, career-readiness. - Collaborate with HDFS faculty and staff to lead in the design and support the implementation of career-oriented educational opportunities for HDFS undergraduates,

- Help develop and maintain relationships with key partners (e.g. community organizations that host interns and/or employ HDFS majors; post-baccalaureate programs)

- Provide direct student advising/support on career-relevant issues (e.g. seeking experiential learning opportunities, resume-building, planning for capstone internships)

- Support HDFS faculty working to manage internship opportunities for HDFS students

Candidates should have superior writing skills, with experience in program/curriculum development strongly preferred. Candidates should also be comfortable, competent, and experienced working directly with both students and faculty/staff collaborators. Ideally, applicants will have experience working with both traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and career goals. Specific competencies critical to success include: excellent verbal and written communication skills; organizational skills; a team-oriented, collaborative approach; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to build strong professional relationships; and demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to career-development and advising.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and 4+ years of related experience; preferred background/experience in or related to higher education student services, academic or career advising.
