POSITION: Cooperative Education Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Student Affairs

REPORTS TO: Director, Career Development Center

The position reports to the Director of the Career Development Center and will also work closely with the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Dean of the Rowland School of Business and school leadership teams, along with the department chairs and other internal departments who play a key role in the success of experiential learning programs. The Specialist is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of programs, services, and policies related to cooperative education.

•Counsel, advise, and place students in co-op positions per the recommendations of the Co-op Committee
•Conduct career preparation appointments and workshops on resume and cover letter writing and interviewing skills
•Assist with recruiting efforts of current and prospective students and employers for cooperative education
•Coordinate special events/projects to educate students on the benefits of cooperative education
•Oversee the relationship between the employer and student in each co-op experience by maintaining contact with both the employer and student, including conducting periodic site visits and updating faculty throughout the process
•Serve as a liaison among students, faculty, and employers regarding administrative and operating requirements for the co-op program
•Work closely with faculty and support staff to develop the integration between classroom learning and cooperative education
•Conduct presentations in the classroom and schedule recruitment tables to gain student interest
•Meet with students on a one-on one basis to assist them in completing requirements for the co-op program
•Counsel students on guidelines and assess eligibility and advise students on procedures throughout the semester
•In collaboration with the other departments (Career Development, Enrollment Management, and Marketing) market recruitment services and programs to the campus community during orientation and open houses
•Meet with the leadership team in the School of Business to update them on the co-op process
•Assist with the future implementation of co-op programs in the School of Communication, School of Arts & Sciences and Conservatory of Performing Arts
•Develop marketing strategies for targeted industries and student populations
•Assist with the planning of Career Development events such as internship and job fairs and networking events
•Work with the Career Development Director and Internship Coordinator to identify prospective co-op employer partners
•Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, security, and appropriate disposition of student cooperative education records
•Monitor and record student, faculty, and employer contact in Handshake
•Collect report data on the co-op program for semester and annual reports
•Involvement in the delivery of the BMGT 280 course
•Assist with annual Pioneer Classic Golf Outing
•Other duties as assigned

•Must be highly organized and detail-oriented and have excellent communication and presentation skills
•Knowledge of career services and experiential learning
•Skilled in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint)
•Capable of the implementation of effective marketing and planning strategies
•Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures preferred
•Ability to understand and interpret policies and regulations and adapt quickly and be flexible to changes
•Knowledge of how to develop surveys, analyze statistical data and prepare statistical reports
•Must be a positive, upbeat and team-oriented person
•Experience in use of career and recruitment management software: Handshake preferred
