The H. John Heinz III College consists of two schools, the School of Public Policy and Management and the School of Information Systems and Management, and offers an academic experience unlike any other. The Heinz College prepares students with a unique ability to conduct careful and objective analysis of relevant data, to understand and demonstrate the power of information technology, and to lead and implement change in managerial and policy contexts.

We are seeking a hands-on and innovative Assistant Director, Career Services. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment and has a passion for helping students excel. You will provide career development counseling and advising to H. John Heinz III College graduate students and alumni with a focus on students and alumni from the Public Policy & Healthcare Policy Management programs.

Primary duties will include:
•Counseling graduate students individually and in groups to prepare them for a successful job search,
•Providing advice and assistance for students seeking internship and full-time employment,
•Preparing and presenting workshops on job-related activities,
•Meeting with potential employers to promote the College and its students to increase employment opportunities, and
•Organizing events, coordinating internship programs, and maintaining confidential student records.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Career Services office at the Heinz College and participate in process improvement efforts to meet demands during peak times to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Travel may be required, as well as evening and weekend hours, particularly during recruiting season.

We will look for you to demonstrate astute decision-making skills and be able to accurately assess alumni and student’s potential to make sound recommendations for job search strategies.

In depth knowledge of employment markets, hiring trends, marketing methods and ability to appropriately apply knowledge and data in these areas are also critical to your success in this role.

•Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Healthcare, Public Management, Business, Student Affairs in Higher Education, Counseling; Master's preferred.
•Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in government, healthcare, non-profit, or student services such as career services, student counseling, student programming in a university setting or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
•Experience developing potential employer contacts in the government, healthcare, non-profit, international development and public sector industries a plus.
